Artist's Statement
Working primarily in watercolor as well as creating book art pieces, I am interested in depicting an imagined human figure in settings with possibilities. Distortions occur. Space is both confining and liberating, stimulating the question "what is beyond what I see?" The influence of Renaissance sketches is seen in the layers of colored marks which highlight architectural fragments whose figures often peer out as if asking for explanations. Items float around figures, binding as well as separating them in space. Ultimately, the viewer is encouraged to come up close to examine details...eye to eye and nose to nose.
